Transition Readiness Preparation Program
The Transition
Readiness Preparation Program is designed to provide high school students with
the skills necessary to achieve independence and personal success in their transition
to college and/or careers. Academic, Emotional and Logistical Readiness are the
building blocks for a successful move to life after high school. These readiness
tools work together to meet the needs of individual students and enable them to
prepare for their chosen college and career pathways.
Academic Skills Assessment & Improvement
Students must have the academic skills required for success in college, vocational/technical training and/or their career. Academic Readiness includes having strong skills in the core subjects of reading, writing and math, as well as strategies for life-long learning. The Transition Readiness course provides students with the training and resources necessary to assess and master these skills.
Emotional Intelligence Assessment & Improvement
Students need to understand and deal with their own emotions, particularly in these challenging times. They must be able to take control of their feelings when interacting with others both personally and professionally. The Emotional Readiness Tools taught in this program enable students to recognize, understand and manage their own emotions while being able to respond appropriately and empathically to the emotions of others. These emotional intelligence skills are necessary for healthy relationships and independence.
Logistical Preparation for College and Careers
Logistical Readiness, covering the functional skills necessary to operate effectively in our society, relies on both academic and emotional readiness to enable students to meet their practical needs and work productively in a career. Students assess and improve their skills in all three readiness areas in order to become fully healthy and functional adults. The Transition Readiness Preparation program is designed for group programs or for individuals who choose internet-based independent study.
